Sustainable mobility in Spain is progressing with the agreement between Electromaps and Shell Recharge, formerly known as Cable Energía. This partnership aims to optimise the experience of electric vehicle drivers by facilitating access to a broader charging network through an interoperability agreement that allows the use of Shell’s public charging points in Spain.
Since Shell acquired 100% of Cable Energía in 2022, the company has adopted the Shell Recharge brand, operating and maintaining its charging network across the Iberian Peninsula. Shell's charging stations in Spain, connected via the OCPI protocol, will be available on the Electromaps app, enabling users to locate and use them just as they do with Shell's charging points in other European countries.
Currently, Shell Recharge’s public charging network in Spain has more than 270 operational points, and expansion continues with over 1,000 points in various stages of development. Initially concentrated in the south of the peninsula, the network is now extending into major urban centres to offer convenient charging in key areas.
Shell Recharge's value proposition focuses on providing accessible and sustainable charging solutions, backed by the expertise of Cable Energía and the global support of Shell. With a focus on innovation, the company continuously seeks to improve the user experience by offering easy-to-use and reliable charging stations. Recent improvements include the introduction of "contactless" card payment, a highly demanded feature among electric vehicle users.
